Reaching for the "Stars"

Postcards

Actually the “Stars” are all of you, my blog readers!  I’m trying to reach you with more information and more fun stuff.  Twice a year or so, I send out postcards with new paintings of mine on them.  They are fun to use as mini-art on your refrigerator, as a bookmark, or folded up as a shim under that wobbly table leg.  Personally, I LOVE getting “snail mail” that’s not a bill and that is colorful to boot, and I hope you do too!

Newsletters

I’ve started sending out an e-newsletter too every couple months with updates, new work and stories about the inspiration behind my paintings.  If you’d like to receive either or both of these, please send me your mailing address (for the postcards) and/or your email address (for the e-newsletter).  You can send this info one of two ways.

1.  Just leave information as a comment to this blog post below.

2.  For a more private method, send the information to my email…info@kathyfergusonart.com

If you think you have friends that might be interested, please forward this blog post to them.  Wishing you an “artful” day.

Need an easy way to give a gift idea to your Valentine this year?

First Newsletter jpeg

I finally moved into the 21st century by sending out my first e-newsletter.  In the past, I sent out postcards which cost me hundreds of dollars each time.  Though I will occasionally still send cards out (who doesn’t love getting mail that isn’t a bill), I can reach many more people this way.  I’d love to add anyone who’s interested in receiving the e-letter to the list. Just send me your email in the comments below or go to my website (www.kathyfergusonart.com) and click on the “Guest Book” link to send me your email confidentially.  My e-newsletter also provides a great way to share my work with others (perhaps as a Valentine’s Day gift hint 🙂

Do people still use the slang term "radical"?

Hanging Around

I’m so “radical”! Or more accurately, my painting “Hanging Around” is radical.  This painting is being featured in the “Radical” Geometry Collection on Saatchi Art’s homepage. It’s a fun, colorful collection of many other paintings that focus on shape, line and geometry in their compositions.  Curated by Associate Curator Bridget Carron, you can see the collection by clicking: Saatchi Radical Geometry Art Collection.

Hanging Around, Mixed Media (acrylic, paper, ink), 24″ x 48″, two panel cradled diptych, $2000

The concept for the painting is based on a nightmare I had about the two things that scare me most…bats and spiders.  In my dream, they bred and mutated into bat-spiders that fly and weave webs in which they catch their prey.  Creepy!

Was it me or the Starbursts?

I had a great turn out this weekend at my Open Studio.  Perfect weather, good people and lots of great art to see.  I’m not sure if my art was the big draw or perhaps that big bowl of Starburst candy I set out?  My husband and son even rode their bikes from Manhattan to Long Island City to give me a quick break so I could dash out and view some of the other artists’ studios and their art.  I snapped this photo of my husband “pitching” my paintings to a perspective collector.

It’s not the cover of Time magazine but it’s a start

I made the front cover of Time!  Okay, more accurately, I’m featured in an article about me and my art in the Times Ledger (a neighborhood paper in Queens).  In the March 28 – April 3 edition, there is a small notice on the front page directing readers to page 41 in the arts section and the full article.  My fifteen minutes of fame has  arrived =).  Of course, they printed the photo of my painting “Circle Invasion” in the article…UPSIDE DOWN!  That will teach us abstract painters to label our paintings “This side up!”  Still, I’m thrilled to get the publicity.  Here’s the weblink to the article:  http://www.timesledger.com/stories/2014/13/kathyferguson_2014_03_28_q.html
