Chinese Violet and Begonia
Cyanotype and Watercolor
12″ x 9″ on paper, surrounded with white 16″ x 12″ acid-free matboard.
“Chinese violet and Begonia” is an original cyanotype with light touches of watercolor. These two luscious shade plants thrive in my Florida garden with large droopy clusters of flowers.
Cyanotypes are one of photography’s oldest printing processes. The distinctive feature of its prints is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. I have used plants from my garden to block the UV-rays and create unique, botanical silhouettes. Additional chemicals, dyes, and watercolor are added to create a truly one-of-a-kind artwork.
