Cyanotype on watercolor paper
10″ x 8″ on paper, surrounded with white 14″ x 11″ acid-free mat board.

Alpine Flower One is an original cyanotype on archival watercolor paper.  These hardy perennials grow in my Colorado high alpine garden. I love them both for their cone-shaped flowers that turn into hundreds of little seeds at the season’s end. The deer hate them, so they don’t eat them either, another plus!

Cyanotypes are one of photography’s oldest printing processes. The distinctive feature of its prints is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. I  used plants from my garden to block the UV rays and create unique, botanical silhouettes.
