Doughnuts and Art are a pair made in heaven

Members Salon Exhibition at the Falchi

POSTER SALON SHOW FALCHI 2015
Long Island City Artists has secured a wonderfully large space to feature the artwork of ALL its members in a month-long exhibition at the Falchi Building in Long Island City. This salon-style exhibition runs from Sunday, October 4 through October 31.

I will be showing my painting “EU Timetable“, a mixed media diptych, 24″x48”, $2000.  I created this work after a group tour of the Amalfi Coast in Italy.  I loved the cobble stone streets, the gold-leafed churches and the colorful fishing boats.  However, I was unprepared for the hectic pace of traveling with a tour group with timetables and schedules that were inflexible.  My painting incorporates all these elements into a colorful, energetic collage.  Look closely to see some of my travel maps I incorporated into the work.

As a side benefit, The Falchi Building is also the home of The Doughnut Plant where you can get your fix of gourmet fancy doughnuts.  Known for their unusually creative flavors such as Tres Leches, Creme Brulee, Rose, Hazelnut Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Blackberry Jam and much more, I can assure you that your tastebuds won’t get bored.

The Falchi Building and The Doughnut Plant are located at 37-00 47th Avenue, Long Island City, NY.  The exhibition is open on weekends from 12-6 pm.

A hot and cold time in New York City

Last Thursday night, it was a whooping 8 degree Fahrenheit in New York City.  But that didn’t stop the art lovers from turning out to attend the Atlantic Gallery’s “Over the Bridge” exhibition in Chelsea.  I was fortunate to have two paintings in this show, along with 38 other Long Island City artists.  The wine was flowing, the crowd was enthusiastic and the art was excellent.  I’ve included photographs of that night “before” and “during” the  opening to show you the crush.  There is still plenty of time to see the exhibition on display until January 17th at Atlantic Gallery, Suite 540, 548 West 28th Street, New York City.

Champagne and art…two of my favorite things

Madelyn Jordon opening nite

One of my favorite things is attending art openings, especially if I’m one of the exhibiting artists.  Add a little champagne to the mix, and the evening is perfect.  Unfortunately, I was out-of-town for this opening so no champagne for me :(.  However, an artist friend of mine, Marjorie Van Cura, also had work in the show.  She snapped some photos of the event to share with me. “Circle Invasion”, the long blue painting happily sold two days before the opening.  That’s worth toasting with champagne!  The exhibition continues through August 31 so drop by Madelyn Jordon Fine Art Gallery at 37 Popham Rd, Scarsdale, New York (open Tuesday-Saturday) to view some interesting contemporary art at excellent prices.

It never even made it on the wall

I recently delivered a painting to the Madelyn Jordon Fine Art Gallery for inclusion in their “Summer Remix” group exhibition that opened last week.  As luck would have it, I ran into a friend who wanted to buy it two days before the opening.  They displayed the painting at the opening anyway but with the coveted red dot on the information label.  For those who don’t know, when a painting sells in a gallery/exhibition, the curator/sales staff will paste a little red dot on the painting’s information label to show that it has already been sold.  I LOVE when I see the red dot on a painting of mine as it means that it has found a good home.

Luckily, the gallery owner ask me to bring up a different painting to exchange out with the sold painting.  I’ve got my fingers crossed for another red dot!  The new painting depicts a magically mist that mysteriously dissipates to show a colorful bower just waiting to be explored.

"The Visual Language of Contemporary Art"

Here’s a peek at the five large paintings I have hanging at the TriCounty Artist of Long Island‘s current exhibition at the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York.   “The Visual Language of Contemporary Art” exhibition hangs in the Wisser Memorial Library where it held an artists’ reception this past Sunday .

I enjoyed attending the show and getting to talk to all the great folks who showed up to view my paintings and the artwork of five other talent artists.  The show runs through May 10, so stop by if you’re in the area.  I love this “artsy” photo I shot of me with my paintings using the mirrors across the room (even if it does make me look wider than I am tall =).

Visiting Portland

Voo Doo Donuts

The gallery show “Abstract Sanctuary” opened last week at the Vernum Ultimum Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon.  I was one of 25 pieces selected by jury (out of almost 400 submissions) and it’s an amazing collection of abstract art, all at great prices.  David and I flew out to see the show this weekend and our adult son joined us.   The exhibition runs through March 30th, so stop by if you’re in the area.  Here’s my son and I checking out the art.

Portland is a great city to explore.  Though it did rain the entire time, we still got out to explore the sights and sample some great food.  We even swung by Voo Doo Donuts to pick up one of their unique creations, a bacon and maple bar.
